We've survived the shock of filling the petrol tank!
Weather-wise we are being very lucky though some people we met who'd driven up from Louisianna were finding it rather chilly.
Our last couple of days have been straight out of a guide book - the prettiest beach, the oldest church, courthouse, goal, the biggest church. We have passed though the Shelburne 'Loyalist Area' where American Loyalists retreated to stay in a British area, Birchtown where the Loyalists in question were also black. The Loyalist flags flying along the Shelburne streets look strangely familiar...
Now we are in the Acadian area which was originally french, french is still spoken and the Acadian french flag with its star flies everywhere. Churchpoint, which is where we are now, has the largest wooden church in N America and a french speaking university (the only one in Nova Scotia.).
I haven't found a way of getting a map into this part of the blog but there is one with each of the photo albums.
Tonight we are right beside the open ocean. The tide has just come up and the sound of the waves will hopefully send us to sleep! Tomorrow we are heading for the Fundy shore and hopefully some whale watching.
Goodnight!

I have finally worked out why, when I clicked my favourites, I couldn't find any posts about your holiday.
ReplyDeleteIs Steve finding places to watch the world cup? You could always buy one in a second hand shop, or are you just checking video clips on the BBC website or yahoo or Youtube?
Canadian B C had a video stream but the internet at this campground isn't all that good so it kept freezing and finally crashed at half time. Steve found the whole experience rather depressing. Not sure whether that would have been any different if he'd been watching it properly tho'!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly isn't shorts weather here,Pam, so your timing is good. The beaches are surprising, so pale and safe looking, and could be in the Caribbean, or somewhere equally inviting. Have you been in? What not even a toe?
ReplyDeleteIt is the same size as our van. Just cleaned it ready to go off next Tuesday. We are heading for Isle D'Oloron first and then the Dodogne. Hoping the thunderstorms by then.
ReplyDeleteHope to see you when you get back
Is it petrol?
